Our Story

In 1918, a group of Christians decided to commit themselves to ongoing fellowship in Marion County. They established a weekly meeting in the Griner family barn and have been meeting consistently ever since. Yes, the barn has been replaced by a beautiful campus with baseball fields and our gorgeous sanctuary, but the pioneering spirit of our community presses on and endures by the grace of God.

Oak Griner is a Southern Baptist Church, and we have reputation for breaking ground for different ministry initiatives throughout Marion County, the first AWANA was hosted at Oak Griner Baptist Church in 1994, and we continue to host local baseball games for the community on our ballfields.

What started out as a group of fifty dedicated Christians in 1915, against the backdrop of the first world war, endures as a principled gospel presence that, while distinctly baptist, is always looking for new ways to, share the gospel, and be Jesus, in Marion County
